Sometimes i get a feeling that as a nation we seem to have fully transitioned from being a socialistic democracy to full fledged capitalistic!
The current weak progress of the monsoon and the rains likely to be below normal is a matter of grave worry and concern. Mumbai lakes have water reserve below 9% and the situation is critical. Several water dams and reservoirs in the state and across the country are reporting low levels. However, all that we and our media are talking about is GDP growth, current account deficit, Sensex and Nifty as if these indicators are the only matters of concern? What about the impact of scanty rainfall on the ensuing rabbi season? What about the affect of the drought like situation on the current Kharif crop? What about the drinking water crisis in major cities like Mumbai? What about the village women travelling miles for one container of water? And the threat of farmers reverting to undertaking suicides if the current situation prevails is very real! Inflation is already pinching the household budget of poor and middle classes.
Economic indicators are important and our stock market is at the centre of international focus. But for the common folks of this country, priority is different and it’s incumbent upon all to highlight the real issues.
These all are matter of Grave Concern but most of us are so much deeply involved in resolving our day to day issues or our daily monthly targets that only a few feel concerned and thus in the priority pyramid they do not figure.
On the other hand ,do we as an individual really try that we waste less of water,we use less of paper,we plant more trees or how many us care about a farmer’s suicide so even as an individual we fail to take cognizance of these very imperceptible but grave issue/s.
Thus when general awareness is low ,how could we make our government officials take note of the same and initiate steps to address these very very grave issues.
Thanks for sharing ,Sir.
